21. A Player may receive a “bye” when allowed by the number of Players for that event. All Players given a “bye” will receive a winning point for that Round.
22. Winners for Prize Monies will be determined by the number of wins recorded and tallied at the end of the Tournament. The Player with the greatest amount of “wins” will be deemed the First Place Winner.
23. Good Sportsmanship will be the prevailing attitude throughout the tournament. All Spectators and Players must behave in a manner that is not disruptive to any ongoing Match. It is the responsibility of the Member Venue Operator to provide a Professional and Safe atmosphere for all PDT Tournaments.
24. Any Player who, during the course of a Tournament, fails to comply with any of these Tournament Rules, will be subject to disqualification from that Tournament.
25. Each Player is entitled to no more than NINE (9) practice darts at the assigned board prior to a Match. No other practice darts may be thrown during the Match.
26. Tournament Boards are reserved for assigned Match Pairings. Exception: Tournament Boards not being used in a Match may be used for practice by Players not involved in a Match as long as the Players and location of the board do not disrupt or interfere with any ongoing Match.
27. Match Pairings will be called 3 times only. Any Player failing to report to the assigned board within 5 minutes of the last call will cause a forfeit to be called.
28. Players are solely responsible for their equipment. In the event that a Players equipment becomes damaged or lost at any point during a Tournament the Player is allotted 10 minutes to repair or replace the damaged or lost equipment.
29. Players are not bound to the Playing Area during the course of Match Play but are allotted only 5 minutes to report for their “Turn”.
30. A turn consists of throwing three darts. Players MUST keep their toes behind the hockey line (oche) or they will forfeit the points for their turn. If a player raises his hand and arm in the beginning of a throwing motion toward the dartboard the dart counts as thrown. The point of the dart must be touching the board to count. If a dart’s tip does not stick within the scoring area of the board for whatever reason (falling out, knocked out, missing the board) it counts as a thrown dart but does not score. A dart that sticks in the back of another also does not score. If someone is preparing to shoot and drops a dart while standing at the line, regardless of whether or not the dart falls over the line, the player is allowed to pick up the dart and throw it. Do not try to catch bounced out darts…they cannot be re-thrown.
31. Players CANNOT practice on any other board while involved in a game.
32. Only Chalkers and Players are allowed in the Play Area. Non-shooters and spectators must allow Tournament Players ample room for Play.
33. Each game begins with the “throw for the cork” (bull’s-eye) to determine which team shoots first and which of the three (3) approved games will be played. The order for the “throw” for the cork is determined by a coin toss with the winner of the toss having option at first or second throw.
34. Only a player participating in the upcoming game may “throw for the cork”. Darts thrown must stick in the board (per rule 30).
35. The second thrower may acknowledge the first dart as an inner or outer bull (cork) and ask for that dart to be removed prior to his/her throw. Should the first dart be removed without the request of the second thrower a re-throw will occur with the second thrower now having the option to throw first. The dart must remain in the board in order to count. Additional throws may be made when throwing the cork until such time as the player’s dart remains in the board. Should the second thrower dislodge the dart of the first a re-throw will be made with the second thrower now throwing first. Re-throws shall be called if it cannot be decided which dart is closest to the cork or if both darts are anywhere in the inner bull or both darts are anywhere in the outer bull. Should a re-throw be necessary the darts will be removed and the person who threw second will now throw first.
36. NO DART MAY BE TOUCHED BY THE THROWER, ANOTHER PLAYER, SCORER, OR SPECTATOR PRIOR TO THE SCORING OF THAT TURN. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE THROWER TO VERIFY HIS SCORE BEFORE REMOVING THE DARTS THROWN.
37. Game Rules as attached in Part II of these rules apply to games played in all PDT Sanctioned and Sponsored Tournaments.

So, if “anytown, USA” has a dozen or so establishments that host PDT tournaments — that $1.00 per player that is sent to PDT is used for a larger dollar amount tournament in “anytown, USA” … right?
If that is the way it works then it would result in more tournaments with large prize amounts at the local level.

That is exactly how it works. It is a “community” effort. Darters from around the country will benefit at all levels: local, state and country. The more establishments that host PDT tournaments the sooner tournaments can be held at the local level.
A portion of the funds are used for local tournaments – another portion for State or “District” tournaments – and yet another for a “Grand Tournament” that could be labeled a “national” tournament.
The goal is to allow players to enter the type of tournaments that they would normally not be able to participate in due to travel and associated expenses. How often do any of us see large dollar amount tournaments hosted in our locality? Usually we see those type of tournaments in large metropolitan areas that we cannot spend the time or money to attend. This program brings it all “home.”
If you know of any establishment that may be interested in hosting PDT tournaments on a weekly basis, contact PDT for more information.

Thanks to Ryan Parker who pointed out a flaw in the general rules. Note there has been a change to rule 34, (throwing the cork), and is now qualified by rule 30 which states that a dart thrown (hit or miss) is a dart thrown.
As of this posting, all “throws for the cork” are subject to the same rules as darts thrown during a game.
Thanks Ryan.
